Robert Purnell, Managing Partner
Mr. Purnell has over fifteen years of experience structuring, underwriting and managing real estate loans and investments. As Managing Director for Shepherd Capital Partners he is responsible for the strategic direction and day to day management of the portfolio, investor relations and loan underwriting. Since 2000 he has underwritten over $150 million of debt and equity investments on real estate encompassing retail centers, office, multi-family, residential and pre-developed land projects. As a Principal with Shepherd Capital L.P., a predecessor company to Shepherd Capital Partners, he oversaw the acquisition, financing and management of institutional quality real estate ranging from $20M to $50M+ for groups of individual investors as well as a $6 billion Wall Street hedge fund. He also served as Director and Broker of Record for CMAC, Inc., a specialty lending company providing mortgage financing for churches, and other religious and non-profit organizations.
Prior to his career in real estate Mr. Purnell was a Principal with Swander Pace & Company, a boutique management consulting firm in San Francisco, where he provided advisory services to Fortune 100 and equivalent companies seeking new growth opportunities via acquisition, new market entrance or expansion. During his tenure there he assisted his clients with over $500 million of M&A activity and strategic growth initiatives.
A native of Des Moines, Iowa. Mr. Purnell lives in the San Francisco, California area with his wife, daughter and their two dogs. He holds an M.B.A. from The Wharton School, an M.A. in International Business from the University of Pennsylvania, and a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Michigan. He is actively involved in various community organizations and travels to Washington DC regularly to meet with members of Congress. He is a licensed California Real Estate Broker and a Certified Retirement Planning Counselor; he has lived and traveled extensively overseas and is fluent in both Spanish and Portuguese.
Mr. Hondagneu is a veteran real estate attorney with 20 years of experience in real estate finance. He began his real estate legal career with Schultz & Wright, LLP representing multi-family housing developers in all aspects of the structuring of debt and equity financing. As in-house Senior Counsel for the Marcus & Millichap Company, a real estate investment holding company, Mr. Hondagneu was responsible for the negotiaton of acquisition, debt and equity financing, leasing and disposition documentation for commercial and residential real estate projects. His experience includes undeveloped land acquisitions, single residential and multi-family acquisition and development, structured finance transactions, portfolio acquisitions, NNN leases and office and commercial retail leasing. During his career, Mr. Hondagneu has closed real estate financing transactions totaling in excess of $500 million.
Prior to his career in law, Mr. Hondagneu worked in the real estate investment syndication industry in investor relations and the marketing of real estate investments, and as a development project manager of multi-family housing.
Mr. Hondagneu is a graduate of the University of California at San Diego, and holds Bachelor of Arts degrees in Economics and History. He received his Juris Doctor from the University of San Francisco School of Law and is a member of the State Bar of California.
